FIND THE RIGHT RUG SIZE FOR EVERY ROOM

Determining the size needed and location to place a rug can be a challenge. But have no fear, we're here to help guide you so you can find the perfect rug for every room in your home. Generally, a minimum of 6 inches and a maximum of 18 inches of space should exist between the rug and the walls for the best effect. To help confirm the correct rug size for your space, use the simple guidelines illustrated below.

Have a small space? Make a seating area with a love seat and arm chair. We recommended all front legs stay on the rug so your furniture doesn't feel like it's floating.

For larger spaces, try an 330x240cm rug in the center of your seating arrangement and anchor the front legs of your seating area on the rug.

Your living room is the heart of your home, so show it some love with a 330x20cm rug. If you have more space, try a 400x300cm rug. A rug this big should be able to accommodate your furniture with all four legs on it.

HOW DO YOU PLACE A RUG IN A LIVING ROOM?

Placing a rug in a living room depends on your space's size and the layout of your furniture. For smaller setups, try a 230x160cm or 290x200cm with the front legs on your rug. For mid-sized and large areas, place an appropriately-sized rug like 330x240cm, 400x300cm or larger, under the furniture with just the front legs on the rug, or with all four legs on top.

HOW DO I CHOOSE A RUG FOR MY LIVING ROOM?

Consider the size, material, and style when choosing a rug for your living room. Decide where you want to place the rug in relation to your furniture to help choose rug dimensions. Look for a material that is durable enough for your household and a color or style that matches the look you’re trying to create.

CAN A RUG BE SMALLER THAN COUCH?

Yes. A rug can be smaller than the couch if you plan to float the rug in the center of your seating area, under the coffee table. We usually recommend all legs on top of the rug, but this option is great for smaller spaces.

SHOULD A RUG GO UNDER THE SOFA?

It depends on the size of your room. Most interior design rules have at least some of the rug under the sofa to keep the rug from looking like it's floating. We suggest either placing the front two legs of the sofa and other furniture on your rug or all four if you have a large space to accommodate a larger rug.
